MediaVault gives complete visibility and control over a WordPress media library. It shows exactly where every file is used, finds the ones that genuinely are not, and lets you stage them for deletion with a safety net rather than deleting on faith.
The hard part of media cleanup is not deleting — it is being confident. So the usage check runs nine separate detectors covering shortcodes, Gutenberg blocks, inline CSS, featured images, WooCommerce galleries, theme mods, Elementor and WPBakery, rather than matching filenames and hoping.
Around that sit cloud storage, import tools, cleanup automation and a permanent audit trail, so a library that has grown for ten years can be brought back under control without losing a weekend to it.

Knowing what is actually used
Before anything is deleted, MediaVault establishes where every file is referenced — including the places a filename search would never look.
Nine detection layers
Shortcodes, Gutenberg blocks, inline CSS and URL references, featured images, WooCommerce galleries, theme customiser settings, Elementor and WPBakery.
A resumable deep scan
Attachments are processed forty at a time with the job state saved, so navigating away or closing the tab does not lose the progress.
No duplicate scans
A job untouched for two minutes is treated as abandoned, so opening a second tab resumes the existing scan instead of starting a rival one.
Skips what is not installed
The scan checks whether WooCommerce, Elementor or WPBakery data exists at all and drops those lookups entirely when it does not.
Fourteen grid overlays
Used and unused status shown on every Media Library thumbnail as a banner, badge, dot, glow, ribbon, stamp or watermark, in colours you pick.
Extra library columns
A sortable file size column plus image dimensions and usage count in the list view, and a tag filter dropdown above it.
Deleting without the risk
Nothing goes straight to permanent deletion. Files are staged with a countdown, and everything is reversible until it expires.
A real recycle bin
Staged files are hidden from both Media Library views and held for a configurable retention period, seven days by default.
Colour-coded countdown
Green above two days left, amber at one to two days, red under twenty-four hours or overdue — so nothing expires unnoticed.
Per-file retention
Override the retention period on individual files when something needs longer than the site default before it goes.
Bulk restore
Stage, restore and permanently delete in bulk. A bad selection is one click to undo at any point before expiry.
Ignore list and pinning
Permanently exempt a file from ever being flagged as unused, or pin one to the top of the grid while you work on it.
Toolbar warning
The WordPress admin bar shows the staged count and how many files expire within twenty-four hours, on every screen.
The dashboard
Thirty-one cached metrics across five named sections, arranged the way you want them rather than the way the plugin thinks best.

Metrics worth acting on
Health score, unlinked files, recoverable space, duplicates, oversized images, modern format percentage, missing alt text and posts without an image.
Your own thresholds
Eighteen of the widgets carry a settings cog, so amber and red mean what they mean on your site rather than a generic default.
Rearrange it
A two-to-six column picker, drag-to-reorder cards, and per-section and per-widget visibility, all saved between sessions.
Refreshed in the background
Figures are recalculated on a schedule you choose so the page loads instantly, with a Refresh Now button when you want them live.
On the WordPress dashboard too
A Status Radar widget puts the headline figures on the standard WordPress dashboard, with its own configuration.

Twelve draggable, individually hideable tool cards, each solving one specific way a media library goes wrong.
Alt text generator
Finds images missing alt text and offers up to three ranked suggestions built from EXIF, captions, titles and filenames. No external API is called.
Smart replace
Swap one file for another everywhere it appears site-wide, including reassigning featured images, with a media picker to find the replacement.
Virtual folders
A hierarchical folder tree over the flat media library, with create, rename, move and delete — without touching where files sit on disk.
Cleanup rules
A visual builder matching on MIME type, file size, age, days unlinked, tag or title, with three actions: stage, delete, or back up then stage.
Four scanners
Dead link scanner, duplicate detector, broken file scanner for attachments missing from disk, and a compression advisor.
Resize and compress
Preset, percentage or pixel resizing and quality-preset compression with optional WebP, backing up the original first so it can be restored.
Tag manager and notes
Rename, delete and bulk-apply media tags, and browse every file carrying a note. Both export to CSV and to an HTML report.
Cloud storage and import
Seven backends for both backup and import, with a one-click handoff into FooGallery once images are in.

Rule-driven permanent deletion can push a copy to every configured provider first, recording per-provider success against the file.
